Scanning letters as images, may require adjustments to scanner , for dpi resolution , an fine tuning color contrast,
use advanced scanner or check if your can scan at 600 dpi +
check color options even if letters are black on white,
save original scan as Tiff if able, and /or pdf export, scanner file if applicable,
if hand writing is clear and legible, you may be able to convert to text from OCR scan and save those files to edit as well,
once you have scans complete, place on cd/dvd as backup,
sd-card and usb memstick and cloud service,
